White Willow in the town

A magnificent White Willow (Salix alba) in the town, with its blue/green leaves just turning. Unlike some other willows, the leaves don't really colour up in autumn.

A Visit to the cemetery

Some more big trees at North Cemetery.
First a couple of conifers, a big Cypress and a Yew.

Then a very large cherry of some kind. Not seen such an old Cherry tree!

Then I spotted a large Whitebeam that had a large hole in the trunk. It was completely hollow inside, the wood there being just pulp.

Then  I saw the large Sweet Chestnut and waited till the kids were next to it to give a sense of scale.

Next a large Locust with strange knobbly growths on the trunk.

There were lots of Lime trees in flower, the smell was fantastic.

Finally a large variegated Sycamore.

And further along a nice big Black Poplar

Which on closer inspection has a large fungal attachment!

May there be trees

I didn't post anything for April, and I toyed with the idea of deleting the blog. I might still do so as I have another photography blog I could put trees in, but for now here's 3 trees from today's walk.

Horse Chestnut

Hawthorn

And Ash

Two contrasting trees

Two very different trees today. First a mature flowering cherry, just coming into its own.

Then a  stately Locust tree (Robinia) yet to come into leaf.

Maples at dusk

I've not been out much this month what with Covid and all that, then I got it myself and it was like having a flu for about 10 days.

Today I took a walk with the dog and snapped some maples as sunset approached.

A big Ash!

Spotted this magnificent Ash today. Must have passed it a hundred trees but never really noticed it. Its obviously suffered some extensive damage in its life but it has fought back.
